Frequently Asked Questions

Sessions

  • If you are a new patient, please take a moment to complete this brief inquiry form, and our Administrative Assistant, Laurel, will be in contact with you to schedule a session.

If you are already seeing Dr. Montgomery-Graham, Caroline Chadwick or Katarina McKenzie, and would like to schedule an appointment, you can do so online.

  • All assessment sessions, and individual and couples therapy sessions last 50 minutes.

  • This is a difficult question; some people begin therapy with a time limited goal. They may come to psychotherapy seeking structured, shorter-term therapy, for example - 8 sessions of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Others come for a longer period of psychotherapy that is much lengthier. Complex problems take longer to understand and resolve.

A 50-minute couples therapy session costs $240.00 to $275.00 depending upon whether you're seeing a PhD Candidate Therapist or a clinical psychologist.

Telehealth

  • We use a secure online telehealth provider called “Jane” that is compliant with all Ontario health privacy legislation. Once you book your appointment, we will send you instructions to login to Jane. All you need is a quiet and private space to have your session. You may have a psychotherapy session with your therapist on a desktop, laptop, tablet, or (less ideally) on your cell phone.

PhD Candidate Therapists

  • Currently we have two PhD Candidate Therapists at our practice, Katarina McKenzie and Caroline Chadwick. PhD Candidate Therapists at Montgomery-Graham Psychology have completed at least 9 years of post-secondary education, with 5 of those years being exclusively focused on broad clinical training in many different sites as well as contributing their own clinical psychological science research to advance the field of psychological science.

Dr. Montgomery supervises PhD Candidate Therapists weekly (individually as well as in group supervision) as the PhD Candidate Therapists move toward becoming independent clinical psychologists who will no longer require supervision. PhD Candidate Therapists will receive at least 2 to 3 more years of training - a hospital residency, supervised practice and licensing exams - before they are fully licensed clinical psychologists.

Couples Therapy

  • We need to do a bit of an assessment at the outset of therapy. The first session will be with both couple members, and we will talk about what brings you to see us and the history and details of some of the issues that concern you. Then your therapist will have 1 to 2 individual sessions with each couple member. Individual sessions are not designed to hold secrets but to learn about each of you as individuals so we can better understand the couple dynamic. Then there will be a feedback session where your therapist will share ideas and plans with you based on what you’re seeking. All further sessions will always be for both couple members.
